Apollo 15, the fourth human lunar landing, touched down in the Hadley-Apennine region of the Moon east of Hadley Rille on July 30, 1971. The Apollo 15 landing site was specifically chosen due to its proximity to a wide variety of interesting lunar geologic features reachable with the first lunar rover. Astronauts David Scott and James Irwin explored this region for almost three days. Uncalibrated LROC NAC image [NASA/GSFC/Arizona State University]
